Everaldo Matonse was born in Mozambique in 1981. He drew inspiration from his brother who was an artist and began experimenting with watercolours, pencil and gouache. His art received a positive response from various people in Maputo and thus encouraged him to pursue his dream of being a visual artist. Matonse's work is inspired by life lessons that his family taught him. His use of the repetition of patterns is invoked from the memories of his journey from his native Mozambique to his new home in South Africa. Matonse uses a variety of mediums to express his feelings, including woodcut prints, oil pastels and paint.
Matonse's work has been exhibited at the Durban Art Gallery, artSpace, the Bat Centre, Umkhumbane and KZNSA Gallery.
